Galvanic Corrosion
One of the types of corrosion, this occurs when electrons flow between two noble metals via water with the severity of it depending on moisture. So, a roof in a coastal environment is more likely to corrode due to air moisture containing salt as opposed to a roof in dry conditions, which will not corrode at all due to a lack of moisture and electrolytes.
Crevice Corrosion
This type of corrosion occurs when water is held on a roof for such a long time that it starts to penetrate the protective coating, causing cracks in the roof. The areas where this usually develops can be the micro cracks in the coating, fastener heads, or panels in the roof. If you notice this happening, then it may be best to contact a roofing company to fix the problem immediately.
Filiform Corrosion
Compared to the other two, Filiform Corrosion is merely a cosmetic issue and doesn’t weaken metal so you don’t have to worry much about this unless you’re concerned about your roof’s appearance. In this case it appears as a thin filament beneath paint but also metal coating.
